“Born in Kingston, first stop Harlem, raised out in Jerz now I’m back for stardom!”
If you were to ask Bl’eve, this best summarizes his exciting journey in the music world.
Being from Jamaica integrates all the rhythms, passion, and culture for music that his
homeland inhabits. The shift to New York and heartbeat that lies within the city, groomed
young Bl’eve to grow a pulse and asurrealistic grasp of reality. It was only natural that his
summers spent in Jamaica, and the everyday life in the city, would create such a rich balance
in culture and expression through music.
The formative years of schooling in New Jersey, created an interest for music that would
shape the foundation for the musician he is today. He joined the school band, picked up the
snare drum, and began to develop his talent as a percussionist. This would be an integral part
of his life all throughout high school. He learned how to read and compose sheet music all the
while exploring all aspects of percussion instruments.
Focused and determined to perfect an understanding for sound, he enrolled in the
media arts after high school. This is where he would be exposed to the digital world of
production and how instruments in real time, could coexist. The advantage of coming from a
percussionist background and applying those dynamics to a digital platform is what gives him
distinction.
“Anyone can apply software-but to have a good understanding of instruments and how they are
intended to perform is what makes you a musician.”
As he began to catalog his production library, he interned at a recording studio in NYC. In this
atmosphere is where the elements he was pursuing creatively would broaden. His business
sense and grasp of the music industry, allowed him to build an established list of clientele. He
created a production company and began to make his impact amongst various songwriters and
artists alike in all genres of music. His scope of production has ranged from artists like Wyclef
Jean to Maino.
It is no surprise that the transition from producer to MC has taken place. Creating music as a
producer is so much more than the music itself. His song writing abilities have always reflected
in his body of work while working with other artists. The major difference now is that he is
the one in the spotlight. Having dominated his production talents for so long has given way to
express his lyrical ones.
“They have always been there; it was only a matter of time before they caught up to each other.” Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
