Эми Питерс (cyrrilic for Amy Pieterse) is a jazz singing girl and her musical collective based in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, comprising of renowned jazz-musicians of the city who play a classy blend of jazz, funk and hip-hop. I was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands to parents of South African / Indian and Irish American origin. I went to school in Ithaca, New York and later moved to Saint Petersburg, Russia with my mother, a Professor of Russian Literature. I trained as a North Indian classical vocalist before coming to jazz music, and am currently based in Saint Petersburg where I work with such musicians as Gregory Voskoboinik, Maxim Voitov, Dmitry Semenov, Sergei Tarusin, and Dmitry Lodygin. Our music is a mix of jazz and hip hop sometimes referred to as hip hop cabaret. It sounds like a combination of D’Angelo and Asian Dub Foundation.
