Russian mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme 2017–19, where roles included Carmen (La Tragédie de Carmen at Wilton’s Music Hall), Mercédès (Carmen), Sonyetka (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Dryad in a scene from Ariadne auf Naxos and Isabella in a scene from L’italiana in Algeri (JPYAP Summer Performance), Flora Bervoix (La traviata) and Preziosilla (La forza del destino). Recent engagements include Carmen (The Royal Opera), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) for the Salzburg Festival, the title role of Carmen for the Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival and Arena di Verona, Carmen (7 Deaths of Maria Callas) for English National Opera, Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) for Teatro di San Carlo, Verdi Requiem with La Scala at Basilica di San Marco. Future engagements include debuts at Zurich Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper and Theater an der Wien, as well as returns to the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Paris Opera and Teatro Real, Madrid.
