A Window to the Sun is a 3 piece studio band from America. The members live on opposite sides of the country -- on the Pacific west coast, New England and Appalachia. Michael Altobello and Anthony Arra started the band under the moniker of Solacium in early January of 2008, with the idea of making a form of progressive doom/death metal with a heavy reliance on acoustic passages. As time passed, they asked their friend Raul Ochoa to join the band, forming a greater coherency and a deeper musical breadth. They play a fairly unique style of progressive post-metal with diverse influences among progressive metal, neo-folk, post-rock, death, black and doom metal. The staggering ability of the band resides in its vast, unyielding compositions. Tracks range all within themselves from the aggressive, gritty black metal of yesteryear to melancholic passages. A variety of employed mechanics in these compositions stretch to delusive, and even optimistic strains. The three began forming musical ideas together, along with lyrical ideas. They have spent nearly 3 years composing a wealth of material, going through a constant refining and revision process. The band never settles on a specific key, scale or tuning to play in as their "default" and thus every song of theirs sounds foreign, yet approachable, on each track. In December 2011, the band decided to amicably part ways to work on other projects. Nearly 2 years later, in August 2013 however, a decision was made to re-unite and begin writing new music again.
