More than 400 shakuhachi players from around the world gathered in Kyoto from May 28 to June 4, the ancient capital, for the 2012 World Shakuhachi Festival. This is the sixth World Shakuhachi Festival. The festivals began in 1994 when it was first held in Bisei, Okayama Prefecture, and the previous one was held in Sydney in 2008.
