Hardly any other person will represent better the neighborhood of Mooca, Sao Paulo, Brazil, than Miriam Ângela Lavecchia, a.k.a. Miriam Batucada, probably our most legitimate and passionate singer coming from that region of Sao Paulo, her place of birth, in 1946. Miriam began her career in 1967, as she received an invitation to participate in Blota Jr.'s TV Record show. Her presentation lasted two hours and amazed all public and presenter. Along the show, Miriam played all the instruments that were on stage that day, such as the piano, drums, harmonica, guitar, opossum, as well as using a table as percussion instrument and marking the rhythm beat with clapping - traditional ways of conducting samba songs. Despite her samba influence be relatively traditional, Miriam was personally very creative and open-minded. She had no problem in writing and performing together with Raul Seixas, Sérgio Sampaio and Edy Star 1971 counterculture record, "Sociedade da Grã-Ordem Kavernista Apresenta Sessão das 10" (Society of the Kavernist Great-Order Presents 10 O' Clock Session). Miriam Batucada died at an early age, in 1994. She was found dead in her apartment in the central area of São Paulo, where she lived alone. Her body was found 21 days after suffering a massive heart attack. Read more on Last.fm.
