Due to historical and geographical reasons, Spanish music is widely diverse. In addition to the exchange of influences between Hispanic American Music and Spanish music, all regions have very distinctive local styles, with influences ranging from Celtic Folk Music in most Northern regions, to Arabic Music and Gypsy and Jewish culture in Southern Spain. Flamenco is the most influential Spanish music style worldwide and due to its diversity of subgenres and styles is very often integrated into popular styles, such as Rock andaluz, Flamenco Pop and the different forms of 'rumba'. Flamenco, in its academic form, is also part of Spanish Classical Music, which is closely related to Spanish popular and folk music styles, integrating Spanish folk, theatre, popular music and regional styles, with the diverse styles of Western Classical Music.

Due to the strong links between folk and popular Spanish music, styles such as Copla and Cuplé are equally influenced by popular theatre and folk music.
