About Shamisen
A Shamisen, or Sangen, is traditional Japanese fretless instrument with 3 string. The neck is similar to a guitar in length however the neck is not as thick and contains no frets, while the body is more like a banjo, with skin forming a rounded rectangular shape which amplifies the sound of the strings. A wide variety of tunings have been used, however the most common three are Honchoshi, Ni Agari, and San Sagari. Read more on Last.fm.
