Genre: Fantasy Ambient

Fantasy Ambient is a subgenre of Ambient music, using many of the same techniques to establish particular atmospheres. Synthesizers and keyboards are the primary instruments of choice, with vocals, samples, and other instruments being used more frequently than is typical in pure Ambient. Generally the goal of this music is to evoke settings of fantasy and adventure, drawing inspiration from European mythology, fantasy writers such as J.R.R. Tolkien, fairy tales, as well as role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. Musical influences include Film Score and Medieval Music (given the typical association of these themes with the medieval period). Though not a requirement, Fantasy Ambient may be dark and ominous in nature. Read more on Last.fm.
