The term Acadian refers to that set of peoples belonging to an ancestry that is connected withn the first francophone descendants of the New World - primarily then, they are families and groups descended from the original settlers of Port Royal and were forcibly removed from Nouvelle Ecosse in 1755 - later to resettle in New Orleans and parts south.
